St Jean Cap Ferrat
St Jean Cap Ferrat – a real gem on the Côte d’Azur
The peninsula of St Jean Cap Ferrat is one of the most wealthy and exclusive areas on the French Riviera, while also managing to emanate a sense of tranquility amongst the summer hedonism.
Superyachts moor in the deep bay, overlooking the world’s most expensive properties, making St Jean Cap Ferrat an exclusive retreat which was once a small fishing port that has since evolved into a thriving luxury centre. There are also plenty of sun-kissed coves and sheltered bays to find along the 15km coastal stretch along with a handful of low-key eateries.
Onshore, you can visit the beautiful Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild which, with its positioning high on a hill, offering spectacular sea views on both sides. The villa is Bell-Epoque in style, and is well visiting, along with the pristine gardens with fountains and a restaurant. Just west of Cap Ferrat is the charming village of Villefranche-sur- mer.
Just behind the harbour, the 14th century old town awaits exploration. Ancient houses painted in pastel hues of red, orange and yellow line cobbled streets connected by twisting staircases. The 16th century citadel is standing poised on a headland above the turquoise sea, the large walled fortress is home to the town hall as well as some high-quality museums. The views here across the Cape Ferrat peninsula are outstanding.
